Chris Yates, Director of LSE Advancement, will be leaving the School at the end of the calendar year after accepting a new position as Chief Advancement and Economic Development Officer for the College of Engineering at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio.
Under Chris’s leadership, Advancement has helped the School to enjoy successive record years in philanthropic income, which included the largest gift ever received, the largest gift ever made by an alumnus, and the Annual Fund breaking the £1 million barrier for the first time in its history.
Chief Operating Officer Andrew Young commented: "I am sorry to see Chris leave and wish him every success in his new role. The School will seek to appoint an interim Director of Advancement, who will oversee the work of the Advancement team until the Spring 2017 Academic Planning and Resources Committee review takes place. At that point we anticipate a global search for a new permanent Director of Advancement."
How do you encourage one of the world’s biggest CO2-emitting industries to reduce its carbon footprint? Just tell its employees they’re being watched.
Worldwide, airlines produced 781 million tons of carbon dioxide in 2015 as they transported more than three billion passengers and 35 per cent of the world’s trade. To put it into perspective, if the industry were a country, it would be the world’s seventh largest emitter. That’s a lot of greenhouse gas in anyone’s language.
But thanks to LSE PhD candidate Greer Gosnell, a field experiment with Virgin Atlantic pilots has helped to cut the airline’s carbon footprint by up to 2200 metric tons of carbon dioxide.
Nominations for this year's Values in Practice Awards (VIP) for Professional Services Staff will open on Monday 24 October.

You may be aware of vibrations which can be felt on some parts of the campus. These are being caused by the removal of the basements of Clare Market and St Clement's buildings on the Centre Buildings site and are passing through the ground into adjacent buildings.
Please be assured that this is nothing to be concerned about. We are working well within tolerance set by the project engineering team and Westminster City Council, who receive regular reports from the monitoring stations. Monitors are positioned throughout the site to record vibration levels and are being reviewed throughout the works by the contractor working on the site. We expect that the vibrations will continue for another 4-5 weeks.
Further details about how the vibrations are monitored can be found in the following newsletter.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused by these works. If you experience or witness any issues in relation to the above, please contact Jas Sidhu on j.sidhu@lse.ac.uk or 020 7955 7778 and she will forward your concern to the relevant person within the Capital Development Team.

Call out for our Carers Network
Can you help? HR are in the process of revamping the School’s staff network dedicated to working carers at LSE.
Carers at the School have told us that a staff network to support them would be helpful. We would like more carers or those who are very close to a carer (such as a partner, relative, friend or line manager), to provide information on what ideas of support they would like LSE to provide.
Initially we will be working on exploring how we can improve support offered for carers within our staff community, as well as considering the group’s terms of reference, creating the networks main objectives, and considering how we want our network to look and feel, together.
If you are a carer, have been a carer in the past, or are close to someone who is, and you are interested in contributing to the process, we would love to hear from you by contacting Eleni Michael from the HR Policy team.
