Dublin based practice Grafton Architects have been selected as the winners of the competition to design 44 Lincoln’s Inn Fields/The Paul Marshall Building, the next major building project for the School.

The majority of the votes at the public exhibition were cast for Teams A and D, with less than 20 votes separating them (Grafton Architects were Team D).

Swati Dhingra, Assistant Professor of Economics at LSE, is among the final shortlist for the 2016 Asian Women of Achievement Awards.

The awards recognise the accomplishments of Asian women in Britain in business, entrepreneurship, athletics, the arts, the public sector, and social and humanitarian work.

Job satisfaction increases as people get older but - paradoxically - declines the longer they stay in a job according to new research forthcoming in the Journal of Management. The paper shows that people’s satisfaction in a job gradually declines over the years - until they move to a new organisation, when they experience a boost. Then, the cycle of decline begins again.

Two-thirds of social housing tenants interviewed for a recent study needed financial help from friends, family and neighbours to make ends meet, often because of benefits cuts, research from LSE has shown.

Eileen Alexander interviewed 200 social housing tenants in 2013 and 2014 and found that that 64 per cent of those interviewed had needed informal financial help over the previous 12 months to cover basic living costs.

Leaving the European Union would reduce flows of foreign direct investment (FDI) into the UK by more than a fifth, damaging productivity and lowering people’s incomes, according to new research released by LSE’s Centre for Economic Performance.

On Tuesday 12 April the House of Lords published Sexual Violence in Conflict: A War Crime - the report of the Sexual Violence in Conflict Select Committee. Professor Christine Chinkin FBA, Director of LSE's Centre for Women, Peace and Security, was specialist advisor to the Select Committee.

Christine says: "This report makes a series of significant recommendations to the UK Government for sustained and co-ordinated action and resources to tackle sexual violence in conflict."

The latest edition of the Ranking Web of Repositories has been released for 2016. Graded on a combination of factors including size, visibility, rich files and Google Scholar indexing, LSE Research Online (LSERO) has been ranked as the 24^th repository in Europe and the 49^th repository in the world.

To be ranked 49^th out of 2,297 repositories is a significant achievement given the size of many of these universities and organisations.

Professor Lord Nicholas Stern and Phillippe Legrain, Visiting Senior Fellow, European Institute will be speaking at the annual Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Forum, in May held at the OECD headquarters in Paris. This year’s theme is ‘Productive Economies, Inclusive Societies’.

We are sad to announce the passing of Fred Gilbert MBE, on 19 March 2016.

Fred joined the LSE Porters team in December 1976. He took over the leadership of the team following the retirement of George Burman. In the 2000 New Year Honours list, Fred was awarded the MBE for services to Higher Education. Fred retired from LSE in July 2004 following nearly 28 years loyal and dedicated service to the School.

Graham Shillabeer, LSE Security Office Manager, said: "Fred was a larger than life character who will be remembered fondly by all those who had the good fortune to have met him and worked with him. Rest in peace, Fred."
